Valentine’s Day is coming soon, so I have prepared a yoga sequence for you of backward extensions. I know you are thinking..how could this be better than a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates? It’s simple, your health comes first and these are wonderful heart openers that your body will love!
Warrior I Pose (Virabhadrasana I)
Downward-facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Upward-facing Dog Pose (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana)
Camel Pose (Ustrasana)
Bow Pose (Dhanurasana)
Seated Angle Pose with a Twist (Upavistha Konasana, Parsva)
Bound Angle Pose with a Twist (Baddha Konasana, Parsva)
Supported Corpse Pose (Salamba Savasana)
Soul- which is said to be “the size of the thumb and dwell within the lotus of the heart.” When we tell the hardened soil of the body/mind using yoga practices, it allows for all of that dirt to be moved out of the way so the deeply buried Soul can rise to the surface.
When you practice these poses the front of the body will lengthen and open like the petals of a lotus flower being touched by sunlight. The backbends in this sequence will strengthen the spinal muscles and prepare you for more advanced backbends. Only then can your hearts wisdom be realized.
